About the Music Unit

Music Programmes:
  • General Music:
    • Lower secondary (all streams)

    • Sec 3 Exp / 4 N(A)
    • Sec 4 Exp / 5 N(A) 

*Lessons will be taught in our school only if there are at least 15 students applying for the course per batch. Otherwise, students can apply through the school and attend classes at another school centre

General Music

Lower Secondary General Music
Textbooks: Joy of Music Bks 1 & 2
Skills focused: keyboard-playing - melody & chords etc
One period per week for 2 semesters
 
Upper Secondary General Music
No textbook
Skills focused: keyboard-playing - melody, chords & rhythms etc
One period per week for 2 semesters

GCE 'O'-Level Music

General Information
  • 2-year programme for Sec 3 Express / 4 Normal & Sec 4 Express / 5 Normal
  • Conducted after school hours on a weekday afternoon for 3 hours (Only available in school if 15 or more students apply for the course. Otherwise, students will apply through the school and attend classes at another school centre)
  • 3 components in 6053 (Music Writing major):
    1. Music Studies 6053 / 1 (2-hour listening / written exam: 50% weightage)
    2. Music Making 6053 / 22 (5 - 10 min recital performance: 20% weightage)
    3. Music Writing 6053 / 31 & 32 (40min music-writing exam: 10% weightage & coursework: 20% weightage)

Pre-requisites
  • A  Pass Certificate in at least Grade 4 Practical & Grade 4 Theory from either the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) or Trinity College of Music etc
  • Must be learning and continuing to learn a musical instrument from a private music teacher
