Chung Cheng Run @ Marina Bay

09 February 2018

“Without ambition one starts nothing. Without work one finishes nothing. The prize will not be sent to you. You have to win it…”. I have a desire to win, I wanted to win and that's why I was determined to give it my very best.

The deafening bang signalled the start of the Chung Cheng Run at Marina Bay. Every competitive runner sprinted like a rocket going into space, and so did I. The rhythmic tapping of my shoes against the ground matched my heart throbbing in my chest. My legs felt heavier and heavier as my goal came nearer. I focused on the ethereal scenery as my throat was as dry as bone and my heart pounding as if trying to break out of my rib cage. The emerald green grass waved and the buildings at the side stood tall, spectating this run. Birds flew past cheerfully chirping as if encouraging me not to give up. The sun was beating down on my back and the ground blurred below me as I ran as fast as my legs could carry me.

Before I knew it, I was near the finishing line. I ran with all the energy I had left and charged towards my goal like a bull which saw red. Sweat rolled down my face in thick, salty beads and the medal containing my hard work and determination hung heavy on my neck. My friends grinned from ear to ear as they congratulated me. I could not suppress the triumphant smile on my face. I did it!
