Urban Farming Workshop for PSG

10 March 2018

The school’s PSG spent a Saturday morning to learn more about the basics of Organic Gardening.

The workshop aims to equip our PSG with basic gardening skills and to provide them with a platform to explore their interest in organic gardening.

Mrs Shah (Biology teacher) and Ms Wendy Ong (Chemistry teacher) conducted the first part of the workshop by sharing some learning points they acquired from various gardening workshops with Edible Garden City and Carbon Inq., covering topics like Soil Science, Plant Propagation and Organic Pesticides.

Our Tong Xin Yuan Ambassador, Mohamed Farid of Class 2G 2018, conducted a hands-on session on mixing soil, plant propagation by stem-cutting and sowing of seeds. Farid, who is very passionate in organic urban farming, also enlightened the PSG with his vast knowledge on edible and medicinal plants and their uses.

We ended the session by harvesting turmeric, sweet potato and turnip from Tong Xin Yuan. Despite the intermittent rain and shine, everyone brought home a bit of everything: knowledge, skills, harvest and memories!

We look forward to more collaboration with the PSG in our school activities!
